Philanthropy Cord

In collaboration with the Office of Community Service, the Office of Development provides each member of the graduating class with the opportunity to earn a Philanthropy Cord to be worn during the commencement ceremony. This cord recognizes the student’s commitment to the University and the community through volunteer service hours and financial support.

To qualify, a student must make a minimum gift of the class year (e.g. 2023 graduates should make a minimum gift of $20.23) to a UL Lafayette designation of their choice and complete 20 hours of volunteer service throughout the UL Lafayette academic career (10 hours during the graduating year).

Students interested in receiving a philanthropy cord must also submit documentation verifying the number of volunteer hours served signed by the organization's volunteer supervisor or have an email from the organization's volunteer supervisor sent to
